About the Founder
When Carla followed her husband, Pastor Ron Ives to Mount Pleasant, Michigan to pioneer a new church in 1986 she never imagined how far the journey would take her! She served as The Potter’s House Family Worship Center’s Children’s Pastor for the first 8 ½ years, building the team to 50 children’s workers with “Operation Spaceship” every Sunday morning, discipleship classes at the mid-week service and outreaches throughout the community. The church grew and eventually she was needed in the adult service to minister at her husband’s side. However, the call to children continued to hold her heart and she began taking short-term mission trips to Guatemala to minister to pastor’s children. This led to the realization that most of the pastor’s children were largely unsaved or poorly discipled. Carla’s heart was burdened for the children of the world.
At a mission’s conference in Harbor Springs, Michigan a vision of training pastors, parents, teachers and leaders to reach and disciple the next generation was born. Carla took her first trip to the Philippines to teach her first Children’s Ministry Seminar and watched the passion for children ignite. Since then, she has prayerfully led the growing ministry of Heart Cry International, mobilizing volunteers from the USA to change children’s lives through quality Christian discipleship and humanitarian projects. Over seventy nations have benefited from HCI’s training and/or materials thus far.
Carla has authored several books for adults and children and is a teacher with a prophetic message for this generation. She is a popular speaker for women’s/youth/mission’s conferences or retreats and teaches at Vessels of Honor School of Ministry. Carla is also a member of the Rotary Club, believing in “service above self.” She continues to minister to children worldwide in churches, in schools and in the darkest slums. To the street boys of Uganda, she is “Jaajja” (Grandma); to the children in the orphanage in Haiti she is “Mama Grandma Carla.” Wherever she goes, Carla carries the passion for the next generation and a love that knows no bounds. Saved 35 years ago, she continues to serve Jesus Christ with zeal and commitment.
Carla Ives was born August 29, 1961 and married Ronald Joseph Ives on February 28, 1981 in Midland, Michigan. They live happily in Michigan, still serving as pastors of The Potter’s House. They have three married children and sixteen grandchildren. The grandchildren are Carla’s favorite hobby and greatest joy.
